Blaise Vernyuy

Born in Bamenda, Cameroon, in 1993. Lives and works in Limbe, Cameroon.

Blaise Vernyuy’s positive outlook on life pervades his brightly colored work. Rooted in the resilience he developed growing up in poverty and neglect, his art celebrates and depicts with tenderness people going about their daily lives – trying to make the most of their current situations despite the challenges they face. Whether staring directly at us, or focused on what they are doing, Vernyuy’s characters exude confidence and presence. They seem to stand on a stage whose meticulously detailed backdrop is covered with abstract patterns and symbols which evoke the rich cultural and artistic heritage of the African continent. Vernyuy calls his unique style “Afro-Abstract Figurative.”

Vernyuy graduated in 2020 from the University of Bamenda, in Cameroon, with a BA in Visual Arts and Art History and First-Class Honors. His work has been exhibited in Cameroon and Nigeria, and now in the USA. It is featured in numerous collections in these countries and beyond.
